Coming out
Today we shared Wink with others for the first time. We’ve been working away quietly for about a year. It’s a bit unnerving to go public with it - like watching you child at their first piano recital. You hope it goes well, and you hope people like it. But the idea is to put it out there and show it to people before it’s ready and get feedback and improve.
We’re at the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco and we showed Wink to quite a few people in the LaunchPad session. In fact all the sessions are packed. The level of interest is really high, especially on the first day of a conference that is mostly workshops.
Wink combines search (we’re using Google) with suggestions derived from user participation. The system learns as people rate o tag sites they like and react to the results. That means the results may not reflect your perspective. If you have a better link in mind for any given search, just tag it and your vote will be counted.
The service is new and not quite ready for everyone to use, but we do want to start letting some people to use it right away. If you’d like to try Wink, just fill out the request on the home page and we’ll try to give you access. We’re really grateful for the input we’ve received from our beta users, and hope to get more. You can send feedback to feedback@wink.com.
